Rocky Votolato's Suicide Medicine. <- That's a link.
At its core, it's really a simple and pure song. That's something you hardly see anymore. It fits his topic well. Depression and suicide are confusing and desolate feelings in themselves. It's not to say they're not powerful, though, and this song really captures that feeling.
I love the metaphors. The way he links the subject together is really poetic. I love that I can identify with it- that "An on/off switch would sure come in handy." And yet, I hate that I share those sentiments at the same time.
I'm sorry, I know, it's a sensitive subject to a lot of people. But listen, please, and tell me you don't feel your heart ache after the first few lines.

a really great song. another great metaphor is when he compares it to a bomb and not being able to control when it will explode.
ReplyDeleteThis is an incredibly powerful song. I had never heard it before but I thought it really was interesting. The metaphors and the emotion behind it make it so real and often the people on the outside don't see that part of the struggle so it was interesting to hear about that trapped feeling and the bomb waiting to explode. Sure it is a touchy and sensitive subject but sadly it's something we have to deal with in our imperfect world and it has greatly affected many people.
